A remarkable first for North Carolina — and among the earliest in the nation. At Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist, a team comprised of Dr. Mustafa Siddiqui, movement disorders neurologist, Dr. Adrian Laxton, neurosurgeon, and Ha Green, physician assistant, successfully programmed the state’s first BrainSenseTM Adaptive Deep Brain Stimulation (aDBS) device for a patient with Parkinson’s disease. This cutting-edge technology uses implanted electrodes to monitor beta frequency waves — a marker for the severity of motor symptoms — and automatically adjusts stimulation in real time to meet the patient’s needs.
